Morning arrived quietly.

The sky was still painted in soft shades of blue and gold when Maahir stepped out of his tent, most of the camp was only beginning to wake up.

A few soldiers moved around preparing for the day ahead while the cool morning breeze carried the scent of damp earth through the air.

For the first time in years, Maahir felt oddly awake despite barely sleeping his body was exhausted and his eyes burned from staying up the entire night.

Yet something inside him felt lighter different as if the world had shifted slightly while he wasn't paying attention.

He picked up a kettle and began preparing tea,the familiar routine should've felt ordinary instead, everything seemed strangely vivid.

The sound of water boiling, the rustle of leaves the distant chirping of birds even warmth of the rising sun things he'd seen a thousand times before suddenly felt new and somehow. every thought led back to her Sarah.

Not the girl or the person but the version of her hidden between two hundred pages, the version nobody else got to see the thought made him smile into his cup.

A smile he quickly hid from absolutely no one.

The steam rose slowly from the tea in his hands ,maahir leaned against a wooden post nearby and stared at the horizon.

A strange realization settled over him last night he had opened a diary out of curiosity ,he had expected random memories, random stories and maybe few secrets instead, he'd found a person a real person who is messy, funny, thoughtful and human somehow that felt far more dangerous.

Now whenever he heard the name Sarah, he wouldn't think of a stranger, he'd think of the girl who hated presentations the girl who made jokes when she was nervous and who wondered if people like her were worthy of love.

โ€ข ๐’‹๐’†๐’†๐’ ๐’Œ๐’ ๐’๐’‚ ๐’…๐’Š๐’•๐’Š ๐’‰๐’‚๐’š๐’†๐’† ๐’ƒ๐’‚๐’Š๐’“๐’Š ๐’•๐’‚๐’๐’‰๐’‚๐’Š ๐’Ž๐’‚๐’Š๐’๐’†

A soft laugh escaped him.

If anyone asked why he was smiling alone at sunrise, he'd have absolutely no answer how was he supposed to explain it?

That a girl he'd never met had somehow occupied his thoughts before breakfast?

ridiculous right and yet there he was.

Thinking about whether she'd ever know that someone had spent an entire night learning every piece of her heart.

The idea should've felt invasive instead, it felt strangely personal as though she'd unknowingly trusted him with something precious something fragile

He looked around once, making sure no one was paying attention, before opening the diary again.

His fingers brushed over the familiar pages then, without really thinking about it, he closed it and pulled it against his chest it was foolish he knew that.

But for a brief moment, holding the diary felt strangely similar to holding a piece of her as if somewhere between those pages, Sarah's presence still lingered.

It was absurd, really everywhere he looked, something reminded him of Sarah.

A half open book resting on a bench or scribbled note tucked between papers any girl laughing somewhere in the distance even the steaming cup of tea in his hands reminded him of the countless diary entries she'd written while sipping chai and overthinking life.

It was as if her words had followed him out of those pages and quietly settled into the world around him and no matter where his eyes wandered, his thoughts somehow found their way back to her.

~ The morning sun climbed higher and camp around him grew busier the day had officially begun but Maahir remained where he was for another moment holding a cup of tea that had already gone cold.

Because for the first time in a very long time. he wasn't thinking about work or responsibilities he was thinking about possibilities and that scared him more than he'd ever admit.

He met Sarah twice barely yet somehow she no longer felt far away not after last night and after two hundred pages the world looked exactly the same as it had yesterday but standing there beneath the morning sky, Maahir knew something had changed and deep down he knew it wasn't the world.

It was peaceful which was exactly why the peace didn't last because Shaurya arrived and if there was one thing Maahir had learned about him, it was this

wherever Shaurya went, peace respectfully packed its bags and left.

Maahir didn't even need to look up the dramatic sigh was enough followed by another one until finally-

"Yaar"Maahir closed his eyes here we go.

"Subah subah kis baat ka shok mana raha hai?"

Shaurya dropped onto the chair beside him.

"I haven't seen her since morning"maahir stared.

"Who"

"Syra "Of course who else?

"Such a huge tragedy Mr Rathore"

"Tu samajh nahi raha."

"Nahi, main samajhna bhi nahi chahta."

Shaurya ignored him completely as if Maahir's purpose in life was merely to listen to his suffering.

"She was fine till yesterday"

"She is still fine Shaurya just in meeting with senior officials"

"Haan par subh se dekha nahi unko"

"Shaurya"

"Haan?"

"Subah ke saat baje hain."

"Toh?"

"To logo ki or zindagi bhi hoti hai"

"Par meri zindagi to vo hai"

Maahir nearly choked on his tea.

"Which hospital"

"Shutup"

Shaurya leaned back dramatically like a soldier returning from war not a man who hadn't seen a woman for three hours.

"I don't think I can survive this bro"

"Rest in peace in advance"

"Mazaak uda le."

"Tu mauka dega to udaunga hi"

Shaurya pointed accusingly at him.

"Dost aise nahi karte."

"Dost subah uthte hi Syra Syra bhi nahi karte."

For a second there was silence then Shaurya narrowed his eyes.

"Wait lieutenant Maahir"

Maahir instantly knew he was about to regret whatever came next.

"Why are you looking so happy ?"

Danger immediate danger maahir ( runnnnnnn)

"It's nothing like that "

"It is "

"Nahi."

"Haan"

"Shaurya."

"Maahir."

The two men stared at each other then Shaurya's gaze dropped toward the horizon thinking deeply suddenly

One of the soldiers was approaching them quickly.

"Captain briefing. All officers to the command tent. Immediately."

The casual atmosphere disappeared at once no more jokes or banter.

In a matter of seconds, the officers they truly were stepped forward shaurya rose from his seat maahir set down his tea without another word, both headed toward the command tent.

The large tent was already crowded when they arrived.

Officers occupied every available seat while several others stood along the edges.

The air felt heavier than before serious and focused at the front stood a senior officer beside a table covered with maps, files, and photographs.

The conversations gradually died down silence settled across the tent the officer glanced around the room then spoke.

"Gentlemen."

His voice was calm and firm, the kind that immediately demanded attention.

"We have received intelligence regarding suspicious activity in and around the Mirzapur sector."

The room remained silent every officer listening carefully the senior officer continued.

"For the last several weeks, multiple reports have indicated the possible movement of hostile elements through civilian routes."

A photograph was placed on the table then another several faces locations and names.

"We do not yet have confirmation regarding their network size."

His gaze swept across the room.

"But we have enough information to believe that an organized operation may be underway."

The atmosphere changed instantly this was no longer routine but was a threat.

A potentially dangerous one,the officer pointed toward a marked location on the map.

"Our primary challenge is simple."

He paused.

"We know something is happening."

His expression hardened.

"We do not know who is involved."

Then came the order.

"Therefore, conventional surveillance will not be sufficient."

A few officers exchanged brief glances they already understood where this was heading then the officer nodded.

"As of today, selected personnel will operate under civilian cover."

Several heads lifted including Maahir's and Shaurya's.

"You will enter local communities as ordinary civilians."

The officer's voice remained hard

"You will observe ,you will gather information then identify potential contacts and most importantly"

His gaze sharpened.

"You will blend in."

The map was unfolded completely several villages had been highlighted.

routes, meeting points and areas of interest every detail carefully marked.

"This operation requires patience."

"No unnecessary risks ,heroics and assumptions."

The officer's eyes moved from one face to another.

"If hostile activity exists, we will find it."

His next words carried the weight of absolute certainty.

"And when we find it we end it."

The room remained still not because they were afraid but because every officer present understood the responsibility that came with those orders.

Lives could depend on this mission one mistake and innocent people could pay the price.

The officer closed the file.

"Mission details will be distributed individually."

"Prepare accordingly."

"Dismissed."

Chairs scraped against the ground as officers rose to their feet the room filled with movement once more yet something had changed.

The morning's laughter, easy conversations and the peaceful atmosphere all of it felt distant now because the mission had begun and somewhere beyond the boundaries of Mirzapur someone was hiding the only question was who would find them first.

The command tent had nearly emptied when the senior officer called out again.

"Lieutenant Maahir and Lieutenant Shaury stay back."

The two exchanged a brief glance before stopping a few more officers remained as the rest filed out.

The flap of the tent closed now only the selected team stood inside.

The atmosphere shifted immediately, this wasn't a routine briefing anymore.

The senior officer walked toward the table and unfolded another map a single location had been marked with a red circle.

A haveli.

an old estate standing on the outskirts of Mirzapur.

"Intelligence suggests suspicious movement in this sector."

The officer tapped the location.

"For the last month, unidentified individuals have been entering and leaving the area at odd hours."

Maahir's gaze remained fixed on the map.

"Who owns the property, sir?"

The officer opened a file.

"The Sharma family."

Maahir froze only for a second but it was enough because one name instantly echoed inside his head -Sarah Sharma.

Just a coincidence focus here maahir

The officer continued, unaware of the storm he'd just created.

"The family itself is not under suspicion at least not currently."

"However, the estate is large enough to hide activities without the owners being aware."

Several photographs were placed on the table of haveli its grounds and old storage buildings, abandoned sections.

broken walls and areas that hadn't been used for years.

"Your team will enter the village under civilian identities, Lieutenant Shaurya and Maahir lead by Captain Syra and a senior officer "

The officer's voice remained calm.

"You will observe and will blend in, it may take days , weeks or even months and you will determine whether these reports are credible."

Shaurya leaned forward slightly.

"No direct action?"

"Not unless necessary."

The officer's expression hardened.

"If hostile elements are present, we need proof first."

The room fell silent maahir stared at the photograph lying nearest to him an old stone pathway ,tall gates the front courtyard and suddenly all he could think about was a diary.

Two hundred pages.

Two hundred pages written by a girl carrying the same surname as the one printed in the file before him coincidence it had to be yet something about it didn't feel like one.

"Any questions?" the officer asked.

Nobody spoke the officer nodded.

"Good."

He closed the file.

"You leave tomorrow morning."

The briefing was over chairs scraped against the ground as officers began leaving but Maahir remained where he was for a moment longer.

His eyes still fixed on the photograph on the name and on the haveli.

A strange feeling settled deep inside him yesterday, Sarah had only existed inside a diary today, her world was suddenly standing right in front of him and for the first time since reading the last page maybe the possibility of actually meeting her felt real.

For the third time in the last hour, Shaurya found himself looking around for Syra and for the third time, she was nowhere to be seen.

"Unbelievable."he kicked a small stone on the path.

"How can one person disappear this much?"

A few soldiers passed by, completely ignoring his suffering ,traitors huh

with a dramatic sigh, he shoved his hands into his pockets and continued walking.

Then he saw her near the old banyan tree alone sitting on a low stone boundary wall his face immediately brightened without wasting another second, he headed toward her.

"Good morning,Captain Syra."

no response didn't even look at him shaurya frowned.

"That's rude mam"

Still nothing finally, she glanced at him and for the first time since he'd met her, there was no spark in her eyes no sarcasm or teasing just exhaustion.

"Not in the mood today, Lieutenant."

The words were cold before he could reply, she stood up.

"Please leave."

Shaurya blinked that was unexpected

usually she'd argue mock him and roll her eyes but this? This wasn't Syra as she turned to leave, he spoke again much softer this time.

"Hey."

She stopped not because she wanted to.

because something in his voice made her pause.

For a few moments neither spoke.

"You can share if u want"

The breeze moved through the trees above them then Syra finally sighed.

"It's my parents' anniversary today."

Shaurya's expression softened ,she looked away feeling embarassed for being so sensitive

"As a kid, I used to love this day."

a small laugh escaped her , sad one.

"We'd decorate the house papa would bring flowers and mom would pretend she didn't like surprises."

Her smile disappeared.

"But now."

The words caught in her throat, she shook her head.

"I don't know."

Shaurya didn't interrupt kr force her to continue so she did.

"Some dates just remind you of everything you've lost."

The sentence was quiet almost a whisper but it told him enough far more than she intended.

For the first time since meeting her, Shaurya wasn't looking at the sharp tongued girl who constantly challenged him.

He was looking at someone carrying grief, someone who had learned how to hide it and suddenly all his usual jokes felt inappropriate.

So he didn't make one instead, he sat down on the wall beside her leaving enough space between them not too close but not too far.

"You know." he said after a while.

"Meri maa ek baat kehti thi "

Syra looked at him, surprised he rarely sounded so serious

"'The hardest thing about losing people isn't that they leave.'"

His gaze remained fixed ahead.

"'It's that life keeps moving afterward.'"

The breeze stirred the leaves overhead.

"'Birthdays come back, festivals come back even anniversaries come back.'"

A faint smile touched his lips.

"Every year you expect it to hurt less , sentiment it doesn't"

The usual carefree grin was gone, the dramatic Lieutenant she'd spent days arguing with was gone in his place sat someone unexpectedly calm and understanding.

"That's."

She stopped for once, words failed her shaurya glanced sideways.

"Wise?"She nodded and he grinned.

"Scary, I know."despite herself, a tiny laugh escaped her the first one all day and somehow that felt like a victory.

Syra shook her head.

"I had completely misjudged you."

Shaurya placed a hand dramatically over his heart.

"Ouch."

"I'm serious."

"I know."

She studied him for a moment confused and curious.

"You act so immature all the time."

"Thank you."

"That wasn't a compliment."

"Still counts madam"

Another reluctant smile appeared on her face and this time Shaurya noticed it not because he was in love but because for the first time, he understood something important.

Some people don't need you to solve their pain they just need someone willing to sit beside it and for once in his life shaurya stayed quiet.

After Shaurya left, Syra remained seated beneath the banyan tree for a long time.

The breeze was gentler now and the heaviness in her chest wasn't completely gone, but it no longer felt unbearable.

She stared ahead, replaying their conversation or rather replaying him.

A small frown appeared on her face.

How was it possible for the same man to be so irritating and so comforting?just yesterday he had been testing her patience showing up uninvited making ridiculous comments and grinning whenever she got annoyed.

Acting as though her irritation was some kind of personal achievement and today he had simply sat beside her no attempts to cheer her up with nonsense just quiet understanding.

The memory made her smile the kind that reached her eyes.

"Idiot," she muttered softly and yet, for the first time, the word sounded oddly affectionate.

Shaking her head, she stood from the wall and began walking back toward the camp, a few steps later, something caught her eye near the stone boundary half hidden beneath a patch of grass.

A wallet.

Syra bent down and picked it upbthe moment she saw it properly, she sighed

"Of course."Who else could lose his wallet for a second she considered returning it immediately.

Then curiosity got the better of her just a little only enough to confirm it belonged to him that's all.

She opened it and froze her breath caught instantly tucked carefully inside one of the transparent sleeves was a photograph.

Not a family photo an ID picture or some childhood memory It was her.

Syra the world seemed to stop for several seconds she simply stared.

unable to move and think.

Her photograph inside his wallet not folded carelessly but kept carefully protected and as though it mattered.

Her fingers trembled slightly as she held it and suddenly everything came rushing back.

Every moment and conversation.

Every glance she'd ignored and smile she'd dismissed.

Every time he'd appeared out of nowhere.

Every time he'd found an excuse to talk to her.

Every time he'd looked at her when he thought she wasn't noticing.

The memories came one after another relentless.

The way his face would brighten whenever he saw her.

The way he'd remember the smallest details about her.

The way he always knew when she was upset.

The way he'd never truly left, no matter how many times she pushed him away.

The teasing,the arguments and smiles.

The concern hidden behind the jokes hsi patience , care and consistency.

Oh God.

A sharp breath escaped her because suddenly it all made sense every single thing the answers had been right in front of her all along she just hadn't wanted to see them or maybe she'd been afraid to.

Her gaze dropped back to the photograph carefully preserved and kept For how long?weeks?months?

The question made her heart ache and then another realization struck harder than the first , how can someone love so selflessly?

He had never asked for anything not once he had simply stayed wnd somehow that realization hurt more than anything else because love wasn't supposed to look like this.

At least, not in the stories she'd heard love was supposed to be loud and demanding but Shaurya's love had been hidden inside ordinary things.

Inside his concern, patience and nside a photograph carried in a wallet.

Tears burned unexpectedly behind her eyes not from sadness but from understanding.

From finally seeing what had been there all along the memory of his smile flashed through her mind.

That stupid smile the one she'd rolled her eyes at a hundred times and for the first time instead of annoyance her heart skipped.

Just once softly and dangerously her fingers tightened around the wallet and somewhere deep inside her, a truth she could no longer deny finally settled into place.

Shaurya loved her he really, truly loved her and that realization changed everything
